Sessions at Internal Wisdom Therapy are 50-60 minutes long. We’ll start with an intake session to get to know each other and set up goals for therapy. Prior, to the intake, I also am open to scheduling a free 15 minute consultation. From there, we will work on your goals by discussing what is going on in your life. I believe we can be in exploration, insight, or the action stage. We can decide which stage it feels like will help us begin. I blend cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy into a client centered approach. This way we can collaborate together to figure out what methods feel best for you.
Sometimes, we had difficulties in our life that feel intrusive and overwhelming. We may not want them to be there but they are there. Things like struggling to get out of bed in the morning, struggling to have the energy to complete assignments for work or school, feeling more down than usual, feeling like you don’t fit in or belong, feeling like you aren’t good enough or not enjoying your life the way you would like. Sometimes, we want to pretend these things don’t exist. Yet, When we tend to talk about them, that’s when we start to notice real change in our lives and I will be there to help you start that change and bring joy back to your life.
Often times, we will work to build awareness of what is causing or contributing to any stress. We will work on mood regulation and skills to help build emotional regulation. And we will explore root causes of issues and anything else that feels related in order to best equip you for life’s challenges.
